Yorkshire based Rallycross driver Craig Lomax and his Extreme RX team headed to Lydden Hill knowing a good result would further strengthen his championship charge. However, it was revealed early on the Saturday morning that the final rounds scheduled to take place at the iconic circuit of Spa in Belgium had been cancelled. This meant that an all-out charge for the crown was now the plan.

Round 7 was to take place over 2 days with the third round of qualifying being run under floodlights in the dark. The Cobra Exhausts supported driver made a great start claiming two solid second places in the first two qualifying heats. Slipping to third spot under the lights. Q4 took place on the Sunday morning and Lomax’ championship charge was right on track as he notched up the race win. With all four qualifying heats done he topped the points table with a 32 point lead to claim the pole for the final. Although lady luck was to deal a final cruel blow to the Yorkshire based driver, where on lap three of the four lap final his C1 Super 1600 car ‘Stella’ broke the dive shaft putting down as a non-finisher.

Once the final points had been awarded  it was evident that he had done enough for the Threepeat! Claiming his third Super 1600 championship in 6 years. Lomax will go down in the history books as the championships most successful Super 1600 driver as the class will be mothballed from 2022 onwards.

So what does the future hold for Lomax? Watch this space in the coming months to find out more

Craig Lomax, #24: ‘I can’t believe it! This championship title is the best one yet! And absolutely not possible without the support of our sponsors. The car has been consistent all year long and that’s a testament to the team around me.

I was expecting to have to go to Belgium and fight to the every end, instead we are going home with the title!‘
